NCDA believe that the assessment compiled by the AIR NOISE ENVIRONMENT PTY LTD adequately details design methods & materials that can be employed to address sound attenuation & meet crime prevention guidelines. From this report the NCDA will conduct wide community and Council consultation & complete a cost analysis prior to initiating further Development Applications.

Based on the outcomes of this report NCDA presented costings to a Nimbin Community Forum in September 2007. A group of committed volunteers took the initiative and have formed the Friends of Nimbin Skate Park (FONS) This group have extended on the NCDA scope of works to include:
  1. Mechanical ventilation for the community radio station
  2. Relocation of the 9 Sibley St.dwelling - subject to an "in principle agreement on a council boundary adjustment
  3. Enclosure of the entire sub ramp voids
  4. Significant landscaping to mitagate surface noise

Additionally...

  • Fire resistant walls will be completed to effectively enclose the voids beneath the steel ramps. ( Appendix F)
  • The use of tyres as a sound & vibration dampener has been negated. Alternatives with a lesser fire risk & maintenance cost are being investigated.
  • Future enclosure of the facility (Scenario 4) remains an option if funds can be raised. (p.24 & Appendix A: Figure 8)
We are still investigating options for sound proofing and funding, when these options have been properly researched then they will be posted here. Whatever course of action is decided on, it will go above and beyond the recommendations outlined in the acoustic engineers report and be displayed for community discussion.
